SHINE: Events have to be NETWORKABLE
Regardless of whether we are talking about an anniversary, a roadshow, a product launch or an executive conference. By applying our formula "Events have to SHINE", we face the crucial challenges of our industry and lay the foundation for lasting long-term success.
Today, we will focus on one element of the SHINE formula that is at the core of every event: Networkable
Let's begin with a very simple question: Why do people go to events? We are sure that events are not just about seeing the latest trends and the most exciting shows. What really attracts people is meeting interesting people and gaining unique experiences. As so often, the focus is on social interaction. It is a basic human need that has unfortunately often been neglected, especially in the last three years of the pandemic. We like to call it the campfire gene in us. For centuries, people have gathered around the campfire, telling stories and exchanging ideas.
Therefore, for us it is clear: every event should be "networkable".
However, to meet these needs, events must be designed to actively promote networking and social interaction. A packed agenda, with participants rushing from one item on the agenda to the next, leaves no time for real encounters. Instead, organisers should leave enough room for spontaneous conversations and unplanned meetings. Do you know the keyword serendipity? It stands for a random or surprising event that can only happen at a live event. That is what makes events unique and special, the random experiences that stay in our minds and that we like to remember, even years later.
However, in order to create these moments and enable social interaction among the participants, formats must be created that consciously promote this, whether live or virtually. It is important that the formats are easily accessible. They should aim to make it simpler for participants to get in touch and to build a sense of community.
One way to achieve this is to create networking areas where participants can exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere. These can be set up either physically on site or virtually. Organisers should make sure that the spaces are pleasantly designed and create the right atmosphere to ensure an open and friendly mood.
Another option is to hold speed dating sessions where participants can get in touch with each other in short conversations. Here, organisers can specifically bring together participants who have similar interests or goals in order to facilitate the exchange.
Furthermore, organisers should also make sure that the overall event atmosphere is designed to strengthen the feeling of belonging and community. For example, collective activities, eating or drinking together or other shared experiences can contribute to this. A common goal can also contribute to participants feeling connected and wanting to make a difference together.
Overall, the importance of networking and social interaction at events should not be underestimated. Only in this way can events become unforgettable experiences that participants will remember for a long time.
