WHAT DOES “GREEN AI” ACTUALLY MEAN?

“Green AI” has two perspectives: Green-in-AI describes measures that are intended to make AI itself more sustainable. This is because training large language models costs a lot of electricity. Even during use, for example when generating individual images, as much energy is consumed as when fully charging a smartphone. AI therefore contributes significantly to the growing power consumption in global data centers. The second perspective is Green-by-AI.
