INSPIRED BY PASSION: A Peek into Svenja's Event Management Apprenticeship
At the tender age of 15, Svenja Lisabelle Jentzen had already decided that she wanted to shape her professional future with a traineeship at VOK DAMS. In September 2021 the time had come and she started her training in event management. We had the opportunity to interview her, and she shared interesting insights into her experiences at VOK DAMS. She told us about the unexpected surprises she experienced along the way, how she assesses innovations in the event industry and where she finds inspiration for her work.
HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR TRAINEESHIP AT VOK DAMS?
Working and learning at VOK DAMS confirmed me what my dream job is and what I want to do for the rest of my life. So yeah, I like it a lot! I also appreciate the many positive aspects it offers: the flexible working hours allow me to optimally integrate my work into my daily routine and the home office option gives me the freedom to work effectively while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. I particularly like the opportunity to travel for projects and explore the world.
I FOUND OUT ABOUT VOK DAMS THROUGH ...
... a teacher. When I was looking for an internship, he suggested that I look into the creative sector and told me about this Wuppertaler agency called VOK DAMS. Two internships later, I was so convinced about working in events, that by the time I was 15, I already knew where I wanted to do my training after high school.
WHAT SURPRISED ME THE MOST WAS THAT ...
... everyone at VOK DAMS really treats each other as equals. Regardless of whether you are C-level management, a working student, a project manager or a trainee, you are always treated as part of the team, just like everyone else. This equality and appreciation are truly remarkable and create a unique working environment. Another special aspect is the intensive exchange between the various locations worldwide. As part of a global network, we have the opportunity to benefit from the experiences and perspectives of all locations. This promotes continuous, individual development and innovation within the company.
FOR ME, INNOVATIONS ARE ...
... constant experimentation, exceeding the limits of what we known and are used to. A willingness to take risks, be curios, have a problem-solving mindset and constant exchange with people from a wide variety of areas.
SUSTAINABILITY IS ESSENTIAL IN LIVE MARKETING BECAUSE ...
... it affects every part of our lives and the economy. But especially in live marketing, the smallest details often cause the greatest environmental impact. Things like, give-aways, being shipped halfway across the planet in extensive packaging. Or rental event furniture delivered with each item individually wrapped in plastic for protection. Or when an exhibition stand cannot be re-used and is thrown away. And even something simple like event participants' cigarette butts being carelessly thrown on the floor because there were not enough ashtrays set up outside... All of this should be a matter of course these days, and always part of the project planning to avoid and prevent waste.
I AM INSPIRED BY ...
... my colleagues, who always manage to bring the most creative concepts to life in a clever and often simple way.
THIS IS WHAT I PARTICULARLY LIKE ABOUT EVENTS ...
At every event you get to know people from different walks of life, you always have new challenges or creative input, and you always gain new perspectives. No matter how experienced you are, there is always a surprise somewhere.
